Here are five healthy techniques that psychological research has shown to help reduce stress in the short- and long-term. Take a break from the stressor.

It may seem difficult to get away from a big work project, a crying baby or a growing credit card bill. … Exercise. … Smile and laugh. … Get social support. … Meditate.

Here are some positive effects of stress, – All life events, even good ones, cause a certain degree of stress.

For example, getting a new job is a positive change, much like getting married, falling in love, getting a raise, winning a game and so on. Stress often accompanies a breakthrough in creativity.

The name “eustress,” is a type of stress we feel when we feel excited. This good stress it keeps us feeling alive and excited about life.

Healing Your Body

Good stress is what we want to aim for, but we know that’s hard to do. So how do we get that balance? Well first we realize the difference between good and bad stress, and then we make changes.

It’s not as hard as you would think it could be, once you’ve made your mind up to do something about it you will do it.

Ways To Reduce Stress and Stop Worrying

This deep breathing exercise helps to stimulate the brain nerve, so you can free your mind and relax.

1. Take a slow breath in through the nose, breathing into your lower belly so you feel it inflate like a balloon (for the count of 4)

2. Hold your breath for 1 or 2 seconds

3. Exhale slowly through the mouth so that you are pushing out the air in the “balloon” and you feel your belly suck in (for the count of 5)

4. Make sure the exhale breath is one or two counts longer that the inhale breath as this activates a greater relaxation response.

5. Wait a few seconds before taking another breath

Another way is getting sleep, it sounds easy in theory, but so many people find it hard to achieve. Sleep is the most important thing you can change if you are feeling stressed.

The average amount of sleep an adult should get is 7 hours a night. We all have experienced good and bad night sleeps, an know how it feels waking up moody and stressed, it’s no fun.

This is a really important one,”Stop and Relax”, if you don’t look after yourself you won’t have the energy to take care of all the other people in your life you take care of.

When our energy gets low we’re cranky, overly sensitive and not as happy as we want to be. So please take some time each day, even if it is only 10 minutes, to Relax.

Here are some examples of relaxation for you to start with.

  • Have a warm bath (not hot) as this will help your body reach a temperature that’s ideal for rest.
  • Writing “to do” lists, can organize your thoughts and clear your mind of any worrying thoughts that pop in to your head
  • Relaxation exercises, such as light stretches, help to relax the muscles. Don’t exercise vigorously though, as it will have the opposite effect.
  • Relaxation CDs can help as they use a hypnotic voice to guide you through muscle relaxation and soothing music and sound effects to relax your brain or worship music.
  • Watching TV or any computer or phone screen keeps the brain engaged and active so it is harder to fall asleep. It is better to read a book or listen to the radio as that relaxes the mind by distracting it from the present worries.

A Great Stress Reliever “Vacation or Getaway”

A positive, well-managed vacation can make you happier and less stressed, and you can return with more energy at work and home, with more meaning in your life.

Positive vacations have a significant effect upon energy and stress. My husband works hard for our family, puts in many, many hours and drives over an hour to work every day.

Some times he doesn’t get time off for weeks, so when we go on vacations, he needs it.

At the beginning of the week he starts off trying to relax but it’s hard to just jump in, ya know, but by the end of the week or ever how long the getaway is, he is relaxed, enjoying his self and laughing with the kids.

Overall stress can be bad or good, It’s up to us to decide if we are going to let stress control us in a really unhealthy way or a really healthy way.

My choice is a healthy way, it may take a lot of work on my part to not get stressed over things that make me upset or mad, but I want to be healthy and if this is what it takes, Let it be. First step toward Healing:)

I think we all need more time to relax and unwind or just be alone with our creator and enjoy life.

Enjoy Life,

Renea

  1. Going on that special vacation is not just the only way of recreation or just o calm the tension and stress but then, focusing more energy on our breathing too can help us to achieve the best when it comes to stress relieving. This is a great one and surely worthy of my time to read. Taking deep breathing and feeling the air and the moment seems a great way too and I like that. Thanks for sharing all these here.

    • Thank you for your comments! There are so many different ways to relax, it’s always so good when we find what works best for us:)

  2. “Smile and laugh”, that have been one very efficient means to get you to relax in any form of difficult situations you find yourself in. Stress in our lives are inevitable, and by that we are left with no option but to find time to rest when we are stressed. The human body is like a machine and it wears out over time when we don’t give it rest time. I like the idea you gave on how to help reduce stress. I will give it a try on my own. Best regards.

  3. I been dealing with stress all my life. This is actually the first time I ever heard of good stress. I thought the very meaning of stress was something that was getting to a person or something a person can’t bare with. What I’m getting out of good stress is that is what anxiety is huh? But that fact that I’m anxious about something means that I’m nervous and off balance correct?

    •  “Eustress,” is a type of stress we feel when we feel excited. The good stress it keeps us feeling alive and excited about life. Here is a website article that’s about good stress: https://www.healthline.com/hea… It explains it  deeper. Thank you for the comment!

  4. Thanks for sharing such an amazing article, it’s a normal for people to refer to stress generally to be something that is of great danger to human health, but on the complex realistic world, there is good and bad as you’ve said in this article and what matters most is the realization of what good stress is and differentiating it from the bad. Vacation is really a nice stress reliever.

    • Yes, it would be so great if everyone understood about good and bad stress! Vacation is my favorite stress reliever but there’s so many ways we can destress out there. Thank you so much for your comment.

      Blessings,

  5. Stress is inevitable and to one level, we all must be conscious of how we deal with it. It is not an easy thing to deal with and most people end u spending huge amounts to secure supplements to be used in unnerving their stress. Seeing that careful breathing and proper breathing can really help a lot in helping to keep the stress at bay is good and will surely be helpful to me in times to come. Also, I will share to most of my friends too. Thanks

    • Thank you so much for your comment! Proper breathing exercises and meditation with music or in the word are some of the best destressors we can do.

      Blessings,

  6. Hello Renea, thanks for sharing this useful article. As a mother, i have learned to deal with stress because its not something i can avoid anymore with two kids running about. So may times when i get too stressed and headache sets in, I often find myself in the clinic. For me one very good means to help reduce stress is a vacation without having to worry about those things you do. Taking a cold bath have been effective so far and till i get the vacation, i will keep up with it

    • Hey Bella, my heart goes out to you. I have 3 kids and been a stay at home mom since my oldest was born, he’s 25 now. That’s why I love vacation’s of any type lol. There was a few things I learned to do though to help me destress and sometimes the kids would join me and sometimes I would get to just be alone:)  (when they joined me I just let them enjoy & didn’t stress over anything), there only young once, I miss my young baby’s now that there all grown up. But I would use my electric foot bath  put lavender or peppermint in it and put a cleansing mask on or something that didn’t scare the kids lol on my face, get the kids there own items or a sitter for an hour. Have a glass of tea in one of my goblets and relax. For headaches peppermint oil rubbed in your hairline around your forehead and behind ears that helps me. Thank you for your comment!

      Blessings,

      Renea

  7. For a stay home mom like me, it’s always kind of hard to get off this stress and it’s very sad. Nowadays, what i do is take as much time as I can to myself whenever the slightest chance shows, I get to travel to relax only when the kids are on vacation. It’s good to read about the differences between good stress and the bad one. Meditation works perfectly too for those who knows the proper conduct, thank you.

    • Thank you so much for your comment! It is so hard when your a stay at home mom. I have been one for almost 26 years, they grow up so very fast, so glad you have learned how to take time for yourself, I use to look and plan our next vacation while waiting for the kids to get there vacations lol. Sometimes I would be taking vacations in my mind because I would get so caught up at looking at places to go for us. I know that’s silly but I guess that’s how I relaxed back then.

      Blessings,

      Renea

  8. Stress is one thing that comes even when not invited, the only responsibility that we have is keeping a healthy lifestyle and learning how to stay away from lots of stress or how to reduce stress. I’m kinda used to meditating very early in the morning when it’s all still quite and my kids aren’t awake, parents know what this means. Also, taking time out to relax is good for the health, it kills stress. It’s nice to have a post like this.

    • Thank you so much for your encouraging comments!! Have a Blessed week!

      Blessings,

      Renea
